I’ll wake you up with some breakfast in bed ‘Cause I played it cool when I was scared of letting goīut I wanna stay with you until we’re grey and old We danced the night away, we drank too much The most the frequency could be is maybe around 2.5kHz. The tone of the organ is very soft and sounds like its frequency lays more between the mids and highs. Lastly, in some parts of the song, there sounds like there is an organ but only briefly. Another sound that I tried to identify was this tinny noise that sounded like a blend of a tambourine and a hi-hat, hence why I believe it to be a synth patch, but it could also be a muted triangle that was made to sound and tinny, maybe the producer patched in some oscillators. The clicks are also in the song from the lead up to the first chorus until outro, so thirty seconds to three minutes 25 seconds. So in this song, there are clicks that were done in MIDI and may have minimal reverb on it, the DAW that was used for the clicks could have been ableton or logic unless there is a click sound on Kontact. Now, my knowledge in synth patched etc is very basic so I don’t know a lot or how to use proper terminology in this, but I am going to give it a try. Both of the instruments don’t overpower any of the other instruments in the mix, they sit just right in the mix. The violin’s and Chelo’s are first introduced into the song in the second chorus and are probably the highest toned sounding instrument in this song. It also has a slappy and fat kind of sound to it, the frequency range could be around 240Hz. The snare doesn’t really sound like its actually there is the mix but was put in to provide with mix with a full feeling. The snare in this track blends nicely with the kick drum, although the snare doesn’t come in until the second chorus. The microphone that was probably used would be the AKG D112, mainly because it is one of the more common microphones to use for a kick drum. When coming up to the second chorus, so around one minute forty seconds, the volume on the kick drum gradually gets louder and more noticeable. It’s slightly boomy and sounds like it could be around 60-80hz as it has a blend of a thump, there may also be a quick attack and a mid-fast release because the hit of the kick drum is quite fast. The kick is first introduced in the song in the chorus, the kick feels like it was put in the mix to give it more character. Throughout the whole song, the chords pretty much remain the same. The guitar is used throughout the entirety of the song and helps carry the light and loving meaning of the song. The start of the song starts with a four-bar guitar introduction, and the instrument sounds very silky and laid-back.Īs for the piano, it has a really nice warm tone and the right amount of sustain on it. Other than the vocals, the second most important element of this song is the acoustic guitar. This makes the track sound more beautiful and helps with conveying the smooth and sweet meaning of the track. There are also some light harmonies that are added in the second chorus, the main vocals are on top of these harmonies. In some sections of the song, the backing vocals and main vocals sound like they have close to an equal balance. The backing vocals are higher than the main vocals, creating that heavenly and beautifully immersive feeling in his vocals. Due to this, I believe that they may have used two auxiliary sends, one with a reverb input and the other with delay, and then panned is hard to both sides. The main vocals are quite centered whereas the reverb and delay sound more behind the mix. The Main vocal sounds like there are some slight reverb and a slight delay. This song is based on both personal and non-personal experiences of the artist, it seems that the aim of this song was to write something that anyone at any age would understand. As well as being a couple you have to retain your sense of being an individual and be able to have time on your own.” (GENIUS, 2016) I think a relationship has to have patience, compromise, respect as well as love and intimacy. The following quote is what James Arthur wrote himself about these lyrics on GENIUS: This could mean that their partner came to them when they were at their lowest moment, her being the light in a dark tunnel kind of metaphor, “You made me feel as though I was enough”. On the other, the speaker met their partner when they were in a “dark place”. On one hand, the couple first met in a dim, dark place but the individual’s personality was shinning compared to everyone else. Interestingly, this song opens with a double meaning. MIDI: Clicks, weird muted triangle sound, synth patch organ James Arthur, Niel Ormandy, and Steve Solomon
